Two posts in one day? It’s like a bonus!! 🙂 Well, it’s happened, we’ve outgrown our single Keurig brewer. When my husband was at work all day the Keurig was more than enough for my daily cup of tea and the occasional cup of hot cocoa. But my hubby works from home now and drinks coffee ALL DAY LONG and uses an average of 5-6 K-cups a day! Not only is this expensive it’s not great for the environment. Our solution left us with the best of both worlds AND it gave me an excuse to give my coffee cabinet a make-over!…………………………………
Enter the Cuisinart Dual coffee and single K-cup brewer. This combo unit is PERFECT for us! My hubby can brew a 12-cup carafe of coffee and sip on it all day and I can use the single serve side for my cup of tea or cocoa. 🙂
Now, we needed a place for it to live. 🙂 For a number of years now, we’ve been using a 1930’s cabinet I found at an antique store to hold all of our coffee and tea necessities. Here’s a before and after picture……………….
Originally we (and by we I mean my husband! LOL!) removed the middle shelf on the left side. Once the shelf was out grooves were left behind were the shelf used to slot in. I used a really lovely script tissue paper and modge podge to “wall paper” the inside. It didn’t completly cover the slots, a bit of shadow is still visible, but I was really pleased with our new coffee cabinet. The original drawers were perfect for their new purpose…it’s like they were designed just for K-cups! 😉
I thought I would be able to just remove the Keurig and slide the new machine in it’s place. It fit fine, width wise, BUT with the self above, there was no way to pour the water into the two different reservoirs. My husband was so excited…the removal of the top shelf gave him a reason to break out several tools! haha!
After the shelf finally came out (with lots of banging, sawing and swearing #theydontmakefurnitureliketheyusedtoo!) and I cleaned up all the debris and set everything back up, this is what we ended up with….
Inside you’ll find:
- Top shelf- bucket with our various drink mixes, coffee filters and a few overflow K-cups (see close up below)
- Middle shelf- Sweeteners and creamers
- Bottom Shelf- Mugs
- Top drawer- our most used K-cups. Earl Gray and breakfast blend coffee
- Large drawer-mostly my daughters tea-bags. She likes speciality teas that do
- Bottom drawer- lesser used K-cups
- Bottom Cabinet- all of our lunch making supplies….lunch boxes, food containers, plastic forks and spoons and paper lunch sacks
We are thrilled with both the functionality and flavor of the Cuisinart Dual coffee maker. And the fact I got to freshen up my coffee cabinet was a big bonus!
