The calendar has rolled over into October…time for some fall decor! This time around I decided to completely overhaul my book shelves (do they really count as book shelves if there’s barely any books on them?….asking for a friend…;) ). I prefer using more neutral colors for fall instead of the brighter more traditional colors associated with this season. I really like my blues, creams/whites, i.e. neutral colors scheme…so much so that it kinda pains me when it’s time for fall and winter. In the past I have just replaced a few items on each shelf with some sort of “fall-ish” item…like a few leaves or a couple of pumpkins. This year I decided I needed to up my fall decor game. Check it out….
Here’s what the shelves typically look like…
and here’s how I styled each shelf in neutral colors/fall theme after I took everything down and started fresh….
I aimed for creams, greys, browns with a very subtle hint of blue. Of course there’s some black in there as well as galvanized metals and a TINY, TINY touch of orange. Decorating for autumn is hard for me since I don’t like the traditional red/orange/yellow/brown color palate. I think this display rings true to who I am while still getting the idea that Fall is here…what do you think?
Here’s some close ups of each shelf….
This is the bottom row. I found that cute galvanized “mail box” (that’s holding the dried cotton stems) at Michaels but I almost got this cute one from Amazon.
Middle row… (Fall trees watercolor was painted by my late Great-Aunt Audine…a most talented artist). This pumpkin recipe tin sign would be cute mixed in if you can’t find the cutting board shown with the wheat. If you want the wooden cutting board option…I found mine in the Target Dollar Spot bins.
and finally the top row. I made my “apple” sign but check out this totally adorable sign available from JaidHomeStudioCo on Etsy.
Besides getting the shelves all gussied up with neutral fall colors, I set out a few other things as well. The “boo” pumpkin gets turned around after Halloween. The other side says “Fall”.
While I don’t do any Fall decorating upstairs, our powder room gets a taste of the season…
Even the porch got a quick make-over…and yes…I do have classic fall colors here. Our red bricks just seem to work well with the plaid red and oranges…
Well…what do you think? Has any Fall decor made it’s way into your house yet? Would you ever use neutral fall colors instead of the more traditional?
