Father’s Day Gift and Activity Ideas

May 19, 2018 by Tina Anthis

Father’s Day is almost upon us! , I thought I’d share a few gift ideas as well as several fun activities that can be done along with, or instead of a gift….I don’t know how it is in your house but I happen to live with a guy who is difficult to buy for. What’s worse is that his birthday is just 2 weeks before Father’s Day…yup…two gift giving holidays back-to-back! Plus my own dad is crazy hard to shop for!! Oh my gosh…he probably takes the prize for most difficult guy to buy for on Father’s Day. But this year I think I’ve nailed it! My dad is constantly complaining that he never sees pictures of the kids…want to know why? He doesn’t go on Facebook! I tell him all the time if he wants to see pics GO.ON.FACEBOOK!! But he just won’t…soooooooo…..enter a wifi enabled digital frame! While I’ve not personally tried it, the concept sounds stupid simple. Each frame has it’s own email address. Take a pic, email it to the frame, it shows up within 1 minute. That’s it! #evenmydadcanhandlethistechnology 😉 Here are a few other Father’s Day ideas…

Magnetic Wristband, BBQ Set, Dad t-shirt (in black), echo dot, key chain, wooden spoons, coffee spoon,

popcorn gift pack,  WIFI photo frame, Uggs slippers, Killing Patton Book, personalized hammer

As I mentioned earlier, my husband is hard to buy for. That isn’t quite true actually…it’s really that he’s just not a “gift” guy. Sure, he’s always appreciative of anything the kids or I give him, but in reality he’d much rather DO something instead of opening something. In years past we’ve done a few things that my kids still talk about years later. In fact I think we might revive some of these this year!

EGG DROP CHALLENGE

This has been a family favorite for years! I simply put out a wide array of items and everyone creates what they think will best support/cushion the egg. We’ve dropped the eggs from various heights including the top of a ladder and from our upper deck. Here are a few ideas to get you thinking…bubble wrap, straws, packing tape, cotton balls, boxes of various sizes, baggies, paper towels, tissues, tissue paper, fabric, string…you get the idea! I am currently our families reigning champ!

SQUIRT GUN FIGHT

So easy! Put out a variety of squirt guns and have a hose at the ready. You get to determine the points and ways to win (if desired). My kids LOVE to gang up on their dad. 🙂 Only rule we have…no squirting each other in the face on purpose. A rule born out of necessity! LOL!

ENGINEERING CHALLENGE

We’ve done a number of these types of challenges. While Nick is technically a COMPUTER engineer, he has the brain of a mechanical engineer and loves to put it to good use. The best thing about these challenges is that they only require basic stuff you likely have lying around your house. If you have kids who are determined to compete against each other…make them a team instead. Kids vs. parent’s is always a win.

MAKE PIZZAS

Nick basically grew up in his dads pizza restaurant so making pizzas is fun and nostalgic for him. We buy ready made dough and then go to town. He likes to show off by flipping the crusts in the air, whereas I’m far more likely to roll my out the boring way. While my kids like traditional red sauce and cheese pizzas, I like to switch it up so I put out a buffet of sauce and topping choices including…

  • pesto
  • alfredo sauce
  • fresh mozzarella cheese
  • feta cheese
  • spinach
  • mushrooms
  • cooked chicken chunks
  • bell peppers
  • pepperoni
  • basil

The possibilities are endless! 🙂

Hope your Father’s Day is amazing!

I like the activity as a gift idea. Last year for Father’s day we went ziplining. Totally safe and not too crazy. We all had a ton of fun!
