Welcome to Friday Favorites…the hot mess edition! LOL! I’ve got quite an eclectic mish-mash of faves to share with you.
It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve linked up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for a good old fashioned Friday Favorites, so I’ve got a number of things to show you….
one – snuggly kitties
These cuties (Ozzie and Harriet) hung out with me while I watching DCI Banks. If you like police procedurals and British t.v., this show is for you! I loved it and am so sad that after 5 seasons it wasn’t renewed.
two – Halloween
Halloween!! My two youngest cuties were decked out as a Winter Queen and a NASA Astronaut. Sofia found her costume quickly…at Target. Easy. Done. Joshua on the other hand, hemmed and hawed for weeks!! It came down to the wire and he finally decided he wanted to be an astronaut, but it had to be the orange flight suit not the “lame white one”. Do you think I was able to find (locally) an orange astronaut costume less than a week before Halloween? Of course not!! I hopped onto the NASA’s website (yes, I actually ordered straight from NASA…I get extra cool-mom points for this right??) and found just what he wanted. It wasn’t cheap, especially because I had to pay for faster shipping, but it was totally worth it. He LOVED his costume this year…I mean it’s orange…his favorite color…need I say more? 😉
three – Easy one-pot dinner
This bad boy might not look the best but it was a huge hit with ALL my kids! Now that’s saying something. So far, in my 20+ years of doing the mom thing, I have really only found maybe 4-5 things that all of my kids will eat. This one-pot dinner is stupid simple….Brown 1-2 lbs of beef along with however much pepperoni you want, drain off the fat, add in a can of beef broth, 2-3 packets of beef ramen (including the seasoning packets), pop the lid on and cook until all of the liquid has been absorbed and the noodles are soft. That’s it! My kids requested that the next time I make this to use the mini pepperonis…or cut up the big pieces….More pepperoni flavor per bite!
four – stray cat
This little one showed up on our porch one evening. She was clearly starving…I mean SO thin! It was sad. She was super friendly and obviously not feral. We fed her and she scarfed down a big can of wet food and quite a bit of dry as well. In the mean time I was sure that I’d seen someone post a while back on Nextdoor.com about their missing kitty. Sure enough, when I went back and checked there was a posting about Ellie, a missing brown tabby. I messaged the owner right away and within 15 minutes Ellies mama was picking her up. The best part? She had been missing for TWO MONTHS! Poor girl. She was so happy to see a familiar face and I’m sure she went home and slept for 15 hours straight out of pure exhaustion. Her mama was so thrilled, it was sweet.
five – Voting!
Such a small, but vitally important thing to do! I was so happy with the outcome of this election. Our governor was re-elected which is awesome…we love him.
six – fresh donuts
Pardon the crappy picture, but these donuts were amazing! They are made fresh to order at a local hole in the wall place. Joshua and I enjoyed these “peanut butter cup” donuts…YUM!
seven – marching band
sniff, sniff….that’s it. She’s all done. Wahhh!! I’m so sad that marching band won’t be a part of our fall season any more. Sarah’s time in color guard has been just the best thing ever. Their final (field) show was a half time, Star Wars themed, show. It was fun…complete with light saber battles. A nice up-beat, happy way to close out three years of marching. That’s her up there, walking off the field for the final time! gah! I’m a mess! Don’t even get me started about the band banquet….I am going to need boxes and boxes of tissues!!
eight – tennis
Joshua’s second season of tennis came to an end. It was so stinkin cold!! The wind was brutal, but he toughed it out (and so did I. At one point I may have had his jacket on my head like a hat/scarf combo…LOL!). He’s looking forward to the spring season.
nine – laundry
Here’s a lame one for you…but I love Gain laundry detergent! I want my whole house to smell like this stuff…but only the original scent, none of that tropical nonsense. (as an aside, does anyone else take pictures of the promo tags at Target? I’ve gotten so tired of getting up to the front, after carefully following the tag rules, only to find out that the Free Target Gift Card hasn’t been triggered by my purchases. Now I just pull up the picture of the tag, show the checker and boom, I get my gift card. Pretty hard to argue with their own signage 🙂 )
ten – grove collaborative
I’ve got a Grove Collaborative post coming up. There was some good stuff in my latest box! If you want to see my initial review, check here.
