8 Easy Steps to Throw a Gingerbread Decorating Party

January 19, 2018 by Tina Anthis

So you want to throw a Gingerbread Decorating Party…here are 8 easy ways to put together an awesome get together!

1.Send out Evites Here’s a snippet from a couple of adorable designs to choose from…

2. Ask your guests to bring something sweet! I provide some fun Cookies and the Cocoa.

3. Set up your teams. I typically group families or friends together to work on one house. Because I (and my husband) are mingling with guests, replenishing supplies, etc., my two youngest don’t have a “family” to be on a team with. I have found that pairing up one kiddo with one of the older guests is a total win. My kids love having so much attention and the older guests love working with a little one. It’s really very sweet.

4. Gather your supplies…

  • Kraft Paper to cover the tables and add cute designs.
  • Pre-made gingerbread houses make things super easy. No collapsing walls! Hint!…we bought 2018’s houses on clearance December 2017! No one will know that they are super stale since no one will be eating them! Instead of the usual $10 per house they were only $5/each!
  • As much candy as you can fit! I use the candy they houses come (as well as the icing) but always add more. Sometimes I buy colorful candy or raid the kids Halloween stash! I also provide shredded coconut (great for “snow”) and pretzels (I always have at least one team that wants to design a “log cabin”.

5. Provide plenty of hot cocoa! I make sure I have one crock-pot loaded up with hot cocoa with another batch already warmed and ready to refill the crock as needed.

6. Stand back and take in the fun! Seriously this party is a breeze to put together and SO much fun!

7. Send home the extras! At the end I divvy up the remaining cookies/desserts and send each family home with a box of treats and their finished, one-of-a kind Gingerbread House!

8. Put your houses on display. I try to have this party as early as I can in December as I like to put the finished houses out as part of our Christmas decor in our entry way.
