How to Throw A Fun Family Valentines Dinner

February 1, 2018 by Tina Anthis

Everyone knows that Valentines Day celebrates the romantic kind of love…right? Well…it doesn’t have to be just for kissy-kissy love. Sure, sure give your husband a card and a big kiss, but instead of falling for the cliché, Hallmark Holiday, version of Valentines Day, try this fun Valentines FAMILY dinner instead!

Decorate the table

After your kids arrive home with all those adorable school Valentines (you know the cutie little cards that you promptly toss on February 15th? Oh, wait maybe that’s just me! Haha!)…anyway…try this easy craft…

Table Runner

  • A long strip of clear contact paper (as long as the length of your dining table)
  • Peel off the backing paper (I highly recommend having someone help with this!)
  • Place it sticky side up on your table
  • Have kids place their Valentines, face down, on the contact paper
  • Once all the cards have been placed, add in some random, mixed size heart cutouts to fill in the gaps
  • If you have a dark table you may want to place white sheets of copy paper over the whole thing before you flip it over. The designs and colors may not be easily seen on darker surfaces
  • I typically just flip the whole thing over, sticking it down the middle of my white table, but if I wanted to keep it for next year, I would place another sheet of contact paper on the backside to seal it up.fall autumn craft contact paper leaves

Ok, ok, I know this doesn’t show Valentines and Hearts…but the process is just the same (only instead of sticking it on a window, place it down the middle of your table) 🙂

I like to use a mix of paper goods alongside a few solid pieces. Doing this avoids the “kids birthday party” look. Of course a bit of glam or bling really dresses up the table too! To Moms of just boys…don’t be afraid to use pink or sparkles or flowers…remember you are setting this table for your family, and last time I checked YOU are a part of the family too! 😉family valentines table setting decoration

What great ideas! We may have to try out the table runner, and the heart shaped pizzas have been a hit at our house in the past.
