After much back and forth and starts and stops we welcomed Penny the puppy into our home last week. She is a 13 week old Labradoodle. She is beautiful and sweet and amazingly mellow (as far as puppies go!).
Penny the labradoodle (officially registered as Puddin’ Paisleys Pretty Penny, after her mama of course), came from a local breeder who has been breeding Australian Labradoodles for about 10 years.
guardian program
Penny will be bred and is ours under the breeders Guardian program. This just means that we love her and snuggle her and make her a part of our family and when she turns two or so, she will begin her mama life. After 2-4 litters of puppies she will retire (and be spayed) and at that time official ownership is transferred to us. This should happen when she’s 4 years of age or there about.
We are responsible for all of her daily care, vet visits (except anything related to breeding is the breeders responsibility) and general over all well being. In the end the puppy fee is waived. We did have to put a $500 deposit down which will be returned to us upon her retirement or we can choose a puppy from her last litter, which, of course, my kids are pushing for already! lol!
labradoodle puppies
Labradoodle puppies are a mix of two of the best breeds for families….Labrador retrievers and Poodles. They can be mini or standard size. Penny falls in the mini category and will max out around 30 lbs. She is hypoallergenic which means she doesn’t shed and shouldn’t cause issues for Sarah, who is allergic to dogs.
puppy life
Puppy life so far has been pretty darn easy (knock on wood). She came to us crate trained so she sleeps from midnight until 6 in the morning. She’s only had a couple of accidents so far, rarely barks and has been quite good about not chasing the cats. She’s picking up commands nicely and really her only quirk/flaw is that instead of walking on the leash she just wants to sit and watch the world go by. Probably a pretty good puppy problem to have, right?!
Be on the lookout for my puppy must-haves! Penny is picky about her toys and chews so we’ve already had some winners and some losers. 🙂
