Rockets Of Awesome- Girl Review

August 29, 2018 by Tina Anthis

Yesterday I blogged about our back to school shopping experience and how it was…well…less than fun. I was left thinking that there must be a better way. I knew that Stitch Fix was adding kids styles and we are signed up for that, but in the mean time a company called Rockets of Awesome came on my radar. I promptly signed both kids up and their first boxes just came! Here’s my initial thoughts on Rockets of Awesome. Is this the shopping solution I’ve been looking for? Read on to find out……………………………………….

Rockets of Awesome is a new kids style delivery company. It works pretty much the same as Stitch Fix and Trunk Club. You input your kids ages, sizes, etc. and then take a short quiz so that the stylists can get a sense of your childs likes and dislikes. You know…what colors they love and hate and if they are allowed to wear cartoon-like character clothing. You also pay a $5 styling fee, which is applied to your purchase if you decide to keep any of the items.

Once your box is ready, you get a preview of what’s inside. You can remove anything you don’t want and add in other items from their inventory. Eight items are included and their claim to fame is that they design all of their own pieces of clothing, making it more likely that your kids will be wearing items that aren’t a dime a dozen. Once you approve the box it ships out.

Here’s what we saw upon arrival…

Rockets of Awesome

Inside the clothes are wrapped nicely in shiny paper which just begs kids to rip it open……

The inside of the box opens to fold flat so that kids can color all these cute designs……

Here’s what the invoice looked like with detailed pricing. If you keep all of the items in the box it will cost you $150. In this case a savings of $43. A pretty good deal…if you like all 8 items.

Of course the most important thing is the clothes! Let’s take a look at what was in the box….

And here’s a fashion show of all the different items……….

Rockets of Awesome

  1. gray “glitter unicorn” top with gray, sparkle sides, joggers. She liked the pants but not the top and of course she wouldn’t wear these together…too much gray!
  2. side view of the joggers…cute sparkle
  3. ice cream sequin top with purple/black leggings. Both of these were a no. The top fit weird and while the leggings were comfy she didn’t care for the pattern
  4. same top as #3 with running shorts. She thought she was going to like these but it turns out they have  built-in spandex shorts on the inside. Not sure why. They were too tight and “annoying”.
  5. pink swing top with gray skort. These wouldn’t be worn together, but she loved both. They were soft and comfy.
  6. same pink swing top worn with a pair of black leggings she already had to show it she would actually wear it.
  7. gray, varsity top with her own black leggings. Loved the softness of the top but not the style.
  8. out of the eight items she narrowed it down to these four…the pink top, the unicorn top, the sparkle joggers and the gray skort.

I told her she could pick two so she chose……….

The pink swing top and the gray skort. Spoiler alert, she wore the skort three days in a row! For a girl who balks about skirts and dresses I was surprised she loved the skort so much. I can also say that it washes up nicely and ketchup stains come right out (ask me how I know!! LOL!)

All in all, Rockets of Awesome was a positive experience. After our mall shopping trip, being able to try on the clothes at home at our leisure (you have 5 days to decide before sending back your returns) and then just popping the rejects in the pre-paid mailer was great. With just 8 items, Sofia wasn’t overwhelmed with choices and she ending up finding two pieces that I know she will get a ton of use out of. The only con, in my opinion,…..the items felt like separates rather than outfits. This is just a nit-picky thing, but I know that my kid (who totally stinks at putting together coordinating outfits) would appreciate knowing what goes with what, if you know what I mean! LOL!

We are looking forward to trying out the next seasons box!
