Typically we end up doing the kids parties at places like the roller skating rink or the bowling alley, but this year my daughter (turning 11) wanted to do something different….she wanted to do a “spooky sleepover”. Uh….um…does this mean there will be a lot of children sleeping over at my house? like all night in my house? like I’m going to have to feed them in the morning? hmmmmmmmmm………………..
Since a spooky sleepover is the only type of party Sofia wanted, I decided to go for it. How did it go you ask? Well here are the stats in case you are interested:
- 9- the number of girls squished into one bedroom with sleeping bags
- 4- the number of popcorn bowls they went through while watching movies
- 3- the number of movies watched
- 2:30- (a.m.) the time I finally lost my mind and told them all to
shut upsettle down and Go.To.Sleep. - 113- the approximate number of times I told the girls to quiet down and/or stop tearing around my house
- 23- the approximate number of times everything had to come to a halt so someone could locate their missing phone (insert eyeroll here)
- 6- the number of different types of Spooky food served (detail below)
- 1- the number of times one of the girls wiped out while running around (bonus…17- the number of minutes said girl needed to recover enough to get back in the mix of things)
- 7- the number of times there was #girldrama (ugh!)
- 2- the number of pounds of candy ingested over the course of 16 hours
- 0- the number of girls throwing up from too much candy (thank god!)
- 1,000- the number of thumbs up my daughter gave the whole spooky sleepover party 🙂
Food details
Here’s a peak at what it takes to make all the various food options we had available…
Sofia and I made (ahead of time) these breadstick “witches brooms” and these “mummy dogs”
The girls also enjoyed making their own cheesy mummy pizzas
and finally we topped things off with some dressed up popcorn, S’mores that we made outside at our firepit and “monster” donuts and donut holes for the morning.
decor
I hit up the dollar store and grabbed streamers and a door decoration then told Sofia to go to town and decorate her room. Here’s what she came up with…Glow in the dark ghost balloons keeping watch over the t.v., a creepy doorway and streamers wrapped around anything that would stand still! Good thing the cats weren’t in there when she was decorating! LOL!
Here’s what I put together, decoration wise…
Movie time
After a bit of research I found that these titles would likely be hits with this age group. (is it wrong that I’ve never seen Hocus Pocus?)
Bonus- My daughter…having a blast with all her friends…
Was the spooky sleepover worth it?
Yes, I was utterly exhausted when it was all over. Yes, I had mountains of cleanup. Yes, girl drama is real thing. And finally, Yes, I’d do it all again because it made my girls 11th birthday just the way she wanted it. 🙂
