In the quest to make clothes shopping for my kids more enjoyable, I’ve been trying a couple of different style delivery companies to check them and see what we think. Last week I reviewed my daughters Rockets of Awesome box and then a couple of days ago I showed you my sons Rockets of Awesome delivery. I was thinking those deliveries were pretty good, but then our first Stitch Fix for Kids arrived!! The skies cleared and the sun shone down…it was like the holy grail of kid clothes shopping. Cute designs, great prices and the ease and convenience of trying the clothes on at home!
I’ve been using Stitch Fix for myself for about two years now and have always been pleased with the variety of styles sent to me. SO when Stitch Fix announced they were expanding into kid styles, I signed my two youngest up immediately.
Joshua’s box arrived first. I knew we were in trouble as soon as I started opening the packages…everything I saw looked super cute!
Before I show you what was in the box, here’s a quick run-down of how Stitch Fix for Kids works:
- Right after you sign up, you’ll take an interest inventory so you can tell your stylist what styles your kid likes and dislikes. What their favorite color is and anything they might be really into….like basketball or lizards. You can also let the stylist know if there any styles that should be avoided such as jeans or graphic t-shirts.
- You set the frequency of deliveries….every month, every other month, every three months or on demand. The frequency can be changed any time
- A $20 styling fee is collecting right before each delivery. The $20 fee is then applied to any purchases you make. If you decide to return all of the items, you forfeit the styling fee.
- We received our box two days after we received the shipping notice (but that may vary depending on your location of course)
- Once you get your box, you have 5 days to look over and try everything on.
- You can check out online…this lets your stylist know what you are keeping and what you are returning. You can give feedback here as well.
- Note- exchanges are allowed but only if the item you want to exchange is still available in the size you need
- Whatever you don’t want just throw into the prepaid mailer and drop it off at the post office.
- If, after five days, you haven’t checked out, Stitch Fix assumes you are keeping your entire shipment and charges you accordingly
- They currently offer sizes 2T-14
Ok! On to the fun finds in our first Stitch Fix Kids box!
Here’s what we saw when we first opened the box. The inside is adorable and the stickers were a fun addition:
Here’s the packages! The zipper bag contained a pair of shoes:
Here’s the first peek at the styles:
Right off the bat I knew these three things would be his favorites: (and I was right!)
There was a cute note addressed to Joshua from the stylist:
Here’s the fashion show!…..
- First up….the glow-in-the dark monster truck t-shirt (a HUGE hit!) with Hudson jeans. These jeans have an elastic waist (with a draw string) and ankle cuffs. They are super soft and not stiff AT ALL. They are denim but seem to fit and feel more like sweat pants.
- Adding in the burgundy zipper hoodie. Nice and thick (but not stiff!) and very soft on the inside
- “Fast as Lightening” hoodie with Under Armor track pants. Both soft and comfy
- Vintage looking long sleeve top with gray joggers. He said he should wear this shirt on our next road trip since there are “travel” patches all over it. 🙂 The gray joggers are just as joggers should be, not too tight and soft allowing all sorts of movement.
- THE SHOES. Oh.my.goodness. does he LOVE these shoes! When we were trying to do some back to school shopping, Joshua tried on over a dozen pairs of shoes and ended up not buying any of them. They were all the wrong color or didn’t feel good on his feet. Enter these Saucony Orange Camo gym shoes. I’m going to bet that he’s going to wear these until they literally fall apart! LOL!
- Finally….grey/white striped top that reverses to burgandy. It’s like two tops in one! These moto joggers were too short but I kept them anyway…I’ll explain in a minute.
Ok….so what did we keep and what did we send back?????????? Well….we kept everything! I purposely didn’t look at the pricing sheet until after he’d tried everything on. I’m willing to pay decent money for a style with the right fit and feel, but I don’t like to feel influenced by the prices as we evaluate each item. Here’s the price breakdown…
You can see that you get a 25% discount if you buy all of the items in your box. In this case there were 10 items (Stitch Fix states on their website that you’ll receive 8-12 items each time). With the discount that brought each item to an average of $18.50. Then once my $20 styling fee was subtracted each item came to only about $16.50!
Now back to those, too-short, joggers…it would have cost me way more to return them (and pay for just the 9 other items) because I’d have to forfeit the 25% discount. So I’ll just give them to a friend instead I would have exchanged them but they were sold out of those particular joggers. So…yup…we kept all ten pieces of clothing and Joshua couldn’t be more thrilled with his purchases. We accomplished more back to school shopping in less time for far less money then we spent at the mall. We were done in 30 minutes! yay!!!
Now that we’ve gotten boxes from Rockets of Awesome and Stitch Fix for Kids, I can say without a doubt that we love Stitch Fix for Kids so much more. This box just felt so much more personalized for Joshua and the prices were way better.
