Fall Trunk Club

November 28, 2018 by Tina Anthis

I have been waiting for this Trunk!! I’ve been wanting to replace my tall brown boots for over a year now. I knew that I wanted to upgrade to a real leather pair this time around. Instead of going to 10 different shoe stores and trying on god knows how many pair of boots, I reached out to my stylist at Trunk Club and gave her my wish list. She sure delivered!

Trunk Club, for those of you who don’t know is a style delivery company powered by Nordstrom. I’ve been using them since this past spring and have truly loved my shopping experience with them. My stylist, La-Shauna, has been sending me Trunks regularly and she is almost always spot on with sizing and styles.

Take a look at what my latest Trunk showed up with!

The absolute best part about Trunk Club, compared to other companies, is the pure quantity of clothing that is sent. Stitch Fix sends five items, Wantable sends 7…Trunk Club sends an average of 12 items! I’m telling you these boxes are BIG.

Here’s what was inside that  big beautiful box…

Sorry about the lighting on those pics! Perhaps my window seat at this time of the day wasn’t the best place to achieve natural lighting. I promise they are different colors! The top set of two tops I knew INSTANTLY that they were going to go back. The ribbon on the one and the weird plaid combo on the other were no-go’s for me.

Now lets take a moment to look at just the boots. I had asked for brown, all leather, tall boots. Two pairs showed up in my Trunk…

Sam Edleman’s and Frye’s. I thought for SURE that the darker brown Frye’s would be the pair I would keep. BUT once I tried them on I quickly changed my mind!

The Frye’s are a beautiful deep cognac brown, soft leather…really pretty. The downfalls….they are slippery as all get out! I’m telling you, I was slipping and sliding all over my carpet, there is no grip on the bottoms. Also, they go on easy but I felt like I was going to rip my foot off at the ankle getting them off! LOL! There’s no zipper to help you out.

The Sam’s are more of a camel color, although I suspect they will darken a bit over time. They were comfy right from the start. The leather is smooth and supple and there is a zipper running the full back side, allowing your foot to slid right in and out. They also felt more secure. I’m pretty sure my feet won’t be sliding out from under me the second I step out of the house. 🙂 Best of all?? The price! The Sam’s coming in at $149 and the Frye’s more than $300! I would have paid that price for the Frye’s if they’d been THE PERFECT boot, but it turns out they weren’t so good for me (and my pocket book! haha!)

Here’s what they look like on….

In the first two pics it shows the Frye’s and the next two the Sam’s. Both were really nice looking, but in the end I had to go with which were going to be the most comfortable.

Here’s a quick showing of the other items…

  1. black pocket hoodie. It was super soft and cozy.
  2. long pocket tunic. Cute but nothing super special
  3. gray pocket hoodie. Oddly shiny
  4. navy blouse. Cute with a half tuck.
  5. gray criss-cross top. Must be worn with a tank under. I didn’t like that it added bulk to my middle.
  6. black cardigan. Didn’t like how the pockets stuck out at the sides.
  7. chambray top….good lord….just no
  8. plaid tunic…OMG…WTF??

All of the tops shown above were worn with the black Paige jeans. I wanted to love them but they were just too bunchy around my knees, especially when worn with boots. They needed to be a lot more snug.

Here’s what I ended up keeping…

The black pocket hoodie, the navy blouse and the Sam Edleman boots. All pieces I know will get a lot of wear.
