It’s true…I’ve become a junkie for the whole “style delivery” way of shopping. I can’t remember the last time I shopped for clothes in an actual store. I’ve been using Trunk Club and Stitch Fix for quite some time now and I have a cute wardrobe, full of quality clothes, to show for it!
Have you been considering either Trunk Club or Stitch Fix? Have you wondered how the whole style delivery thing works? Read on! I’ve got the low down for you…
trunk club (powered by Nordstrom)
I know, I know, as soon as you saw Nordstrom you instantly thought “too expensive”. It’s true that their items are going to be more expensive than say, Target, but in this case you really do get what you pay for. The quality is top notch and Nordstrom has a return policy like no other and their customer service is second to none. Let’s just say that Nordstrom is the Chick-fil-A of the shopping world!
What a “trunk” looks like
Trunk Club works a bit differently than some other style delivery companies. With Trunk Club, each box averages 10-12 items. These boxes are BIG! You’ll find a wide range of items (depending on what you requested) including everything from the most casual to the fanciest gowns and sandals all the way to boots and everything in between.
trunk preview
The other main difference is you actually get to see your trunk before it ships! No surprises here. A few days before shipment you’ll get an email with a preview. You can veto any items that you don’t like and ask your stylist to include other items instead. Shipping is fast and you use the same box to return your unwanted items in via UPS (you can request a UPS pick up from your house).
previous deliveries
Trunk Club starts out the same as Stitch Fix….with an interest questionaire. It’s quite detailed and includes your sizes/measurments, likes and dislikes, price range and most importantly, your wardrobe needs/goals. Trunk Club assigns you a Stylist and over time, you develop a “relationship”. This way your stylist always has a sense of you what you already own (better to coordinate new items with) and what your day-to-day life looks like so she can hone in on exactly the pieces that will work for you. You can message your stylist anytime as well as update your profile to reflect any sizing or style changes you might have.
my favorite style delivery item ever!
I have been super pleased with all of my deliveries from Trunk Club. On average I keep 2 pieces per box. Although there have been several times I’ve only kept one, if it happened to be a really spendy item…like my Frye booties. (sorry for the terrible pic!)
themed trunks
Every so often Trunk Club offers specialized trunks. Some of the past themes have been Resort Wear, Denim Style, Outer Wear.

Stitch Fix (the original style delivery company)
Stitch Fix is a solid, tried and true company. I’ve been using them for 2 1/2 or so years. I’ve had great luck with Stitch Fix and only once did I return an entire box. It was just a total miss for me. But more typically I keep 2-4 items. The price point per item is (on average) less than Trunk Club, so it makes it a bit easier to build up a wardrobe faster.
style quiz
Stitch Fix constantly challenges my sense of style. Most often the items sent to me are things I would have never picked up off a rack at a regular store. Yet, once I try them on, I am almost always pleasantly surprised! Much like Trunk Club, Stitch Fix starts out with a detailed inventory of your wishes, likes, sizing, etc. They have a nice feature where you can thumbs up or thumbs down individual clothing pieces…while this doesn’t necessarily lead to those items being in your next box, it does help the stylists narrow down your personal style.
thumbs up or thumbs down
Two downfalls of Stitch Fix….First, they only send (on average) 5-6 items. While this makes it easier to make returns, it ultimately limits my choices. And second, I’ve found that I’ve never had the same stylist put together my “fix”. This is the one thing I really wish I could change about Stitch Fix. I am a firm believer in having one point of contact as that seems to lead to more precise deliveries.
what a “fix” looks like
Finally, Stitch Fix has an add-on service. Here’s where you can add in undies, bras, shape wear, etc. Pick what you want and they’ll toss those into your next delivery.

——————————-
You really can’t go wrong with either Trunk Club or Stitch Fix. With both companies I’ve had good customer service and they both have pushed me outside my comfort zone style wise. Over time I’ve built up a versatile wardrobe that takes through the seasons as well as from casual all the way to fancier events.
