I’ve become a big fan of clothing delivery companies. I’ve been using Stitch Fix on and off for roughly 2 years (7 total deliveries). Recently Trunk Club came onto my radar and I knew right away that I needed to compare the two.
I was able to schedule the deliveries to arrive on the same day. Here’s my review…
HOW THEY LOOKED UPON ARRIVAL:
Both Trunk Club (pics 1 and 2) and Stitch Fix (pics 3 and 4) come packaged quite nicely. Trunk Club wins in this category solely because I appreciate the factor that I’m not stuck with the box when I’m done. Trunk Club has customers return their unwanted items in the original box, whereas Stitch Fix you use a US postal service mailer and therefore have to fuss with recycling the box.
WHAT CAME IN THE BOXES:
When setting up my orders I specified certain things in the notes to the stylists. I also linked my “Style” Pinterest Board. I was quite detailed in what I was looking for (and what I WASN’T looking for!). Ok, I told the stylists I was hoping to see…
- skinny jeans
- brown booties
- tunic style tops
- long cardigan
I would say that both companies did a really good job and paid careful attention to my wants. I found all of my requested items in both boxes. The big difference here is that I knew ahead of time what was coming in my Trunk Club box. The stylist there contacted me via email with a photo list of the items chosen for me. I was able to remove any that I didn’t want right off the bat. The remaining 7 items were sent to me. With Stitch Fix the items remain a mystery until the box arrives. Which is great if you love surprises! This category is a TIE.
TRYING THINGS ON…
Trunk Club included a black tunic (shown with the detail at the neckline), skinny jeans, a super soft “sweatshirt” (it’s very light weight), black with a twisty detail at the hem, (shown in the second picture above). A gray tunic top, a long cardigan, and two pairs of boots (brown leather pair shown above)
Everything fit perfectly! I was quite pleased with the choices. They were all totally MY style. Having seven items to try really added to the fun.
Out of seven “fixes” this is the, by far, the best box Stitch Fix has ever sent! Every item was a serious contender (except the skinny jeans…more on those in a bit!). They sent five items (this is typical). First up was a teal, dolman sweater (shown above), then a gray long cardigan (also shown). Next up was a pair of Toms brown booties and a gray??purple?? hoodie top (both pictured).
Once again, everything was a perfect fit. All the items were just what I asked for. I feel like the stylist really paid attention to my notes and my Pinterest board. Again a TIE.
So…lets talk about the skinny jeans…what is happening with these jeans?? I know that distressed denim is very much in style, but these things were crazy ripped! Sorry for the weird photos, but I just had to show these goofy things. I couldn’t get my feet in the legs without first sticking them through the knee holes and then my toes and heels got all sorts of tangled up in the raw hem. When I bent my knee it looked like a ham hock! HAHA! While the size was right, these couldn’t go back in the return envelope fast enough! I guess distressed jeans aren’t for me! 🙂
WHAT DID I KEEP???…
After much consideration I decided to keep the Born booties, the Black, twisty top and the long gray cardigan. The black top with the neck detail was a contender but I put my money into the booties instead. They are so comfortable and the leather is amazing. I think all three of these will be in a steady rotation. So, two Trunk Club items and one from Stitch Fix.
WHAT ABOUT THE COST???
I won’t lie the prices on these are hefty. You can specify (when you set up your accounts) your price range (such as $50-100) per item. I typically buy my basics from Target, but for nicer, higher quality, my go to is Nordstrom (who by the way owns Trunk Club). I set my per item price at whatever the mid-range is and have been consistently pleased with the overall quality. If just basing the winner here on price then Stitch Fix would win. The clothing, for the most part, was of equal quality. The shoes were hands down better from Trunk Club. (the Toms booties were exactly the same price as the Born and the Toms felt cheap and were very uncomfortable!!) Here’s the breakdown…
- Total cost of the 7 items from Trunk Club…$620 (average per item price- $88)
- Total cost of the 5 items from Stitch Fix…$288 (average per item price- $58)
- The booties were a splurge at $139 (TC)
- Black twisty top was $49 (TC)
- Gray cardigan $68 (SF)
AND THE WINNER IS…
There isn’t a clear winner. Both Trunk Club and Stitch Fix really hit the mark on these boxes. I felt like both companies made a fantastic effort, making sure to include only items that fit what I was looking for. Quality was fairly equal and ultimately I kept items from both TC and SF. I can see using both companies again. If I were looking for any specialty items, shoes or clothing for fancier occasions, I’m quite sure I would choose Trunk Club. Stitch Fix is likely going to continue being my go to for more casual items.

Thanks Christina! I know you like to shop at Loft…you’d probably have good luck with a service and find the quality comparable.

I did a few Stitch Fix round and ended up with a couple favorite pieces and a couple other decent ones. My problem is that I’m just too cheap about my clothes. 🙂 But maybe I’ll try Trunk Club next. I need some new duds!

I hope you find some fun new things!
